Zyrtec
Zyrtec is a medication prescribed for people
to help aid in relieve for symptoms such as hay fever and
other associated or similar allergies, Zyrtec can be use for
seasonal or year around relief.
Zyrtec offers 12-hour extended release tablets;
it can be taken no more than twice a day. Tablet’s may
be taken with or without food, but should be swallowed whole,
without breaking or chewing.
Should you miss a dose of Zyrtec
Try to take the missing dose as soon as you remember it. If
it is almost time for your next dose, then skip dose of Zyrtec
you missed and resume your regular schedule. But never take
2 doses of Zyrtec at once.
Some of the most common side effects are
dry mouth, fatigue, sleepiness
Other Zyrtec side effects may include dizziness,
irregular or rapid heartbeat, nausea, nervousness, restlessness,
excitability, headache, insomnia, heart palpitations, sore
throat, and weakness.
There are reasons Zyrtec should not be prescribed.
If you are allergic to any of Zyrtec's ingredients, or to
the drug like Atarax which is similar, or to drugs that tend
to raise blood pressure (adrenergic agents), do not take Zyrtec.
Symptoms that indicate sensitivity to adrenergic agents include
insomnia, dizziness, tremor, weakness, or irregular heartbeat.
Avoid Zyrtec if you have severe high blood
pressure, severe heart disease, high pressure in the eye,
glaucoma, or difficulty urinating. Zyrtec is not to be combined
with any drug classified as an MAO inhibitor. This would include
antidepressants such as Nardil and Parnate.
Use Zyrtec sparingly in cases of high blood
pressure or heart disease. Be very cautious, too if you have
diabetes, or a tendency to increased pressure in the eyes,
glaucoma, or using Zyrtec with overactive thyroid gland, or
an enlarged prostate gland. Patients with kidney or liver
problems should make sure your doctor is aware of it. The
dosage of Zyrtec may have to be reduced.
Zyrtec can cause some people to become sleepy.
Always use caution when driving motor vehicle or operating
potentially dangerous machinery after taking this drug.
Zyrtec is not recommended for children under
the age of 12 years.
Avoid Zyrtec if you've taken an MAO inhibitor
such as Nardil or Parnate anytime within the preceding 14
days. Also avoid combining Zyrtec with alcohol, muscle relaxants,
antidepressants, tranquilizers, sedatives, or pain-relieving
narcotics, sleeping pills; they increase the likelihood of
drowsiness.
If Zyrtec is taken with certain other drugs,
the effects of either Zyrtec, the other drug(s) or both could
be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important
to check with your doctor before combining Zyrtec with some
of the following drugs:
1. Drugs used to treat high blood pressure,
including Inversine, Aldomet, and reserpine
2. Digitalis
3. Drugs that tend to raise blood pressure
4. High doses of theophylline.
Before taking Zyrtec check with your doctor
if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. The possibility
of causing harm to the fetus or developing has not be ruled
out.
Both of the active agents in Zyrtec make
their way into human breast milk so it is not recommended
for mother who are nursing.
Recommended dose as follows for adults and children 12 years
of age and older is 1 tablet twice daily. The doctor may recommend
only 1 dose per day if you have kidney problems or liver problems.
Over dosage of Zyrtec can have serious consequences.
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
Symptoms of Zyrtec overdose includes:
Restlessness, sweating, thirst, urination problems, vomiting
Chest pain, coma, convulsions, delusions, drowsiness, giddiness,
hallucinations, headache, insomnia, irregular heartbeat, irritability,
muscle weakness, nausea, palpitations, respiratory failure. |
